Mosaic Festival

We are all excited about watching Brian Mcknight tonight at the Mosaic festival. You guys bought tickets to watch any acts in the Mosaic ?

On march 13th, Hazrul was invited by Indra Ismail to perform with them at the Living room for Mosaic. The Trio Indra, as their act is known, played amazingly tight together. The audience was tapping their feet and swaying to their jazzy renditions of familiar tunes.

Here are the links on youtube for Hazrul's act, but sorry about the lousy recording as it was impromptu that i became the videographer shooting it with my digicam. :) Enjoy!

Who we are............

VOCALIST
Hazrul, a well known figure in the music scene now. He makes people cry when he sings, just because he is so good.
Hazrul's interest in music was spotted since he was a toddler. According to his mother, little Hazrul loved to sing-a-long to any television or radio jingles.
Many years later, Hazrul decided to pursue his dreams in becoming a singer. Runner-up in Talentime 2001, Hazrul has appeared in numerous television variety programmes such as Suria's National Day Special, Hari Raya Special and AZAM, a fund-raising charity show.
Together with songwriter Mayuni Omar, they won the Juara 2002 songwriting competition and the song Kaulah Segalanya , hit the top of the charts for 5 consecutive weeks and was in the Malaysian ERA charts as well. The mini album received a record 8 nominations in 7 different categories in the Anugerah Planet Muzik 2004 including Most Popular Male Artiste (Regional) and Best New Artiste (Regional). Hazrul sang the theme song for the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize Award 2008.

Hazrul is part of popular local A capella group, Vocaluptuous, who was invited by the Taiwan A Cappella Association to perform at their Asian A Cappella Festival 2005.In December, it held its own concerts as part of the Esplanade’s Coffee Morning and Afternoon Tea programme.Vocaluptuous also opened for Paquito D’Rivera and The New York Voices during the Mosaic Music Festival 2006.December 2006 saw Vocaluptuous in concert yet again, this time performing a record 8 shows of its aptly-titled Lush.Pop.Jazz concert at the Esplanade Theatre Studio, breaking new ground yet again with its stylish theatrical setting and complex musical arrangements.
In August 2007, Vocaluptuous was invited by the Singapore Tourism Board to perform at its 3-day Food Festival in Tokyo, where they impressed audiences with their professionalism and slick presentation.
Upon their return, they were invited to perform at the ASEAN Ministerial Gala Dinner in November 2007 where they sang a segment of songs aptly titled ‘Jazz in the City’. 2008 saw them performing for an event by WWF, Panda ball, at the St. Regis Singapore.

With so much local and international exposure, Hazrul is now a very confident, versatile crooner, who will evoke your memory of R&B in the 80's, when music was all about soul.

VOCALIST
Music learning started early for Joie Leong. At an early age of 5, Joie started piano lessons and attained the 8th grade in piano. Being exposed to 'good' music by her mother, Joie has been singing and
dancing at a very tender age, and performing for an audience comes naturally to her. Good music to her is Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Nat King Cole. Being a competent & versatile singer, she has also made it to Talentime 2001. This led to many opportunities to being a favourite for wedding and live events, to doing back up recordings for Mediacorp studios and to singing for tv drama serials. Joie has appeared in numerous events like the SCORE (Singapore Corporation of Rehabilitative Enterprises), National Day Community Merchant's dinner and also recorded the theme song for Singapore’s 1st community Movie, Twilight Kitchen, which was a collaboration between Mediacorp Singapore and SCORE.

Eventhough Joie had a day job for 10 years as a flight attendant till 2007, she never gave up her passion for music. Instead she used this opportunity to pick up tips from all over the world to find her style, giving her a deep and soulful style of singing now.

GUITARIST
Nique Tan, is the backbone of this trio act. He accompanies Hazrul and Joie with his skilful fingerwork on guitar. Nique has his father to thank, as his passion for music started when his father introduced him to the strings of the guitar, and he has never looked back since.
Nique was also a contestant in Talentime 2001, where he crooned alongside with his brother, and of course with the guitar in tow.
2004 saw him being handpicked to be in the training course by Ocean Butterflies as he was recognised for his talent in songwriting and his crystal clear voice. Armed with his exposure to music making under the tutelage of veteran local songwriters, he won the 2005 Xinyaojie national chinese songwriting competition. The biggest achievement in his music career, has to be being a grand finalist in Channel U's 1st Superband competition. His group J3 made it to the final stage of Superband with their unique and professional arrangements.
The trio met in Talentime 2001 and became very good friends with the same passion for music. They have grown individually as very good solo acts and yet work even better now as a trio. Their versatility in mixing jazz, bossa nova and r&b to familiar and contemporary tunes is most unique and very addictive making them a very popular act for large scale events like those organised by Singtel and cosy ones like weddings.
It is music that brings this trio together and staying together. Now they are sharing the joy of their music with you.
